Akhu shrine
Honouring your akhu - your ancestors, the blessed dead - is a big part of the kemetic orthodox faith. Ancestoral shrines were common in the homes of the people of Kemet, and are still common in modern kemetic practitioners' homes. We don't worship our akhu, but we honour them, if not daily then at least on a somewhat regular basis. We ask them to be part of our lives, for our own happiness' sake. We're not a death cult, as I see it. We merely pay respect to those whose wisdom far exceeds our own.
Akhu are symbolized by stars (and the starry night sky is symbolically their home), which is why there is a lot of them in this shrine. :) Just to clear up any confusion.
You can add your own akhu to the shrine, if you wish. Just click "Your akhu" to view the akhu sky that others have contributed to, and "Add your own" to add a star for someone you lost (or an older akh, like a great great great grandfather). You may include a letter or memorial note as well. You needn't be kemetic orthodox to add a star (and your akh may be of any faith, as well) - you could be any type of kemetic, or pagan, or christian, or buddhist, or... basically, people of any faith can add a star or ten. :) Because you may add as many as you'd like! Just remember: don't add your full or real name unless you're comfortable with it. Same goes for e-mail and URL. Also, you needn't, in my opinion, add the full name of your akh unless you want to - I, for example, only add their first name and surname initial. A nickname (like "Bob" for Robert or such) may also be suitable.
